President Obama addresses the nation

The President addressed the growing threat of the radical Islamic group called ISIS on Wednesday night. This group, according to President Obama, could become a threat to our nation and our allies. He announced that the American government, as well as other countries, will “lead a broad coalition to roll back this terrorist threat.” President Obama laid out his plan to “degrade, and ultimately destroy, ISIL through a comprehensive and sustained counter-terrorism strategy.”

The President ensured the American people that he is committed to protecting our nation by combating ISIS with a step-by-step plan. He emphasized his most important ideas, presented an assertive tone, and told stories of American success stories in order to show his dedication to stopping ISIS. He also used strong language in his speech. For example, the President stated “it will take time to eradicate a cancer like ISIL.”

The most effective part of the President’s speech was the explanation of how he planned to combat ISIS. He simplified his plan down to four major steps in order for the American people to follow along. The nation needs to be informed about the crisis in the middle east and by laying out his plan in a straightforward way, the President effectively conveyed his message.

The media truth that stands out is that media are essential parts of our lives. Without media, a President could not convey his message to the nation in an efficient manner. Tonight, I watch President Obama’s speech on CNN. However, his speech is also available on television channels, online, and on radio broadcasts. The President, as well as us, need media as a medium to communicate our messages.
